About South Africa Facts
South Africa Facts is an independent project giving South Africans accurate, up-to-date information, free tools and a community forum to discuss it.
South Africa Facts is an independent project with one job, giving South Africans clear, accurate, up-to-date information they can actually use, plus a community where real people talk it through.
We started South Africa Facts because good information about life in this country is scattered, often out of date, and frequently buried under noise. Fuel prices, dam levels, bank charges, fibre deals, medical aid options, the cricket fixtures, none of it should be this hard to check. So we pull the facts together, keep them current, and present them plainly.
The project has two halves that work together, a publication at southafricafacts.co.za and a community forum at community.southafricafacts.co.za. One brings you the facts, the other lets you discuss them with other South Africans.
Accuracy is the whole point
A fact that is wrong is worse than no fact at all, because someone will act on it. That is why accuracy sits at the centre of everything here. We check claims against primary sources, we cite where the numbers come from, and we correct mistakes openly when we find them.
Just as important, we keep information current. A right answer from two years ago can be a wrong answer today, so our prices, rates and data are refreshed on a regular schedule rather than written once and forgotten. When a fuel price changes, a dam level shifts, or a bank updates its fees, the pages here are meant to move with it.
What you will find on the site
The publication covers South African news, money, sport, history and everyday practical questions. Alongside the articles, we build free tools and calculators that do something genuinely useful rather than just fill a page.
Comparisons that save money
Side-by-side tools for bank fees, home fibre, mobile data, fixed wireless and medical aid, built to show the real cost for your situation.
Live data, kept fresh
Fuel prices, cash investment rates, dam levels and financial rates, updated on a schedule so the number you see is the number that counts.
Facts and context
Clear articles, daily news briefings, and "on this day" pieces that explain South Africa rather than just headline it.
Practical calculators
Car versus Uber, currency and forex fees, rewards planners and more, all free and built to answer a real question.
You can browse everything in one place on our free tools and calculators page.
Independent, and intent on staying that way
We are not owned by a bank, a network, an insurer or a political party, and our comparisons are not pay-to-win. When we rank a deal or a provider, it is on the merits for the reader, not on who paid the most. That independence is what lets us tell you when the cheapest option is not the one with the biggest advert, and we guard it carefully.
The community forum
Facts are a starting point, conversation is where they get tested. Our forum at community.southafricafacts.co.za is where South Africans ask questions, share what they are seeing on the ground, and challenge each other's assumptions in good faith.
It is a space for real, useful discussion, load shedding workarounds, the actual cost of a deal someone signed up for, a correction to something we published, a local angle the article missed. If the site is the reference, the forum is the room where it all gets debated and improved.
